Hickory Nut Gorge Foundation

Community foundations make up one of the fastest growing sectors of philanthropy in the United States today. They build and strengthen communities by making it possible for a wide range of donors to make lasting gifts to their communities which continue doing good work long after the donor is gone. Community Foundations, through philanthropy which is visionary, diverse and inclusive, have become catalysts for improvement within urban centers and rural settings. The Hickory Nut Gorge Foundation, a component fund of the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, (www.cfwnc.org) currently has funds in excess of $35,000 which provide earnings which are used to benefit the communities of the Gorge. It works cooperatively with the towns, fire departments, and other social betterment organizations in the Hickory Nut Gorge and surrounding counties.
