History

The Hickory Nut Gorge Foundation was started in 2006 with an anonymous seed donation of $25,000 from a resident of Lake Lure. The Hickory Nut Gorge Foundation was started to create an endowment that will act as an ever-growing, everlasting positive force in the community where we live.

Its purpose is to help preserve, improve and serve the environment, the wildlife, and the people who live in the Gorge. It provides grants to charitable funds, communities, and churches for the people and communities in the Gorge and beyond. This endowment is a component fund of The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. Giving to the Hickory Nut Gorge Foundation makes a permanent difference for future generations that will live in the Gorge.

Chances are you already support the organizations and issues you care about by giving to them directly. Now you can make a gift that will last forever.
